A nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 3-5. At Genoa-Hugo Preschool, we are more than a classroom- we are a community where children are encouraged to learn, explore, imagine and grow.
Our Preschool Program
Our Preschool Program provides a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 3-5 years old. We believe children learn best through hands-on experiences. meaningful interactions, play, and opportunities to explore their world at their own pace.
We proudly use the Frog Street Curriculum which supports the whole child through engaging activities that promote early literacy, math, science, social-emotional development, language, and physical development. Our teachers intentionally scaffold learning to meet each child where they are and help build confidence, independence, and love for learning.
Frog Street Curriculum
Frog Street builds early literacy through stories, songs, rhymes, letters, and hands-on learning—growing vocabulary, listening, writing, and confidence for kindergarten.
Students use hands-on discovery and experiments to explore plants, animals, weather, and cause-and-effect—building curiosity, problem-solving, and young scientist minds.
Children learn numbers, counting, shapes, patterns, sorting, sizes, spatial awareness, and early problem-solving to build essential math skills for learning success.
Frog Street fosters social-emotional growth using stories, songs, and play—teaching kids self-regulation, empathy, sharing, and problem-solving to build confident learners.
Language arts builds early speech and literacy through songs, stories, and talk—helping children express ideas, grow vocabulary, and prepare for kindergarten.
Physical Development strengthens gross and fine motor skills through active play—using running, jumping, balancing, and hands-on fun to build strength, coordination, and confidence

Universal Preschool
Our Program participates in Colorado's Universal Preschool (PreK) program, which helps provide access to high-quality preschool for eligible Colorado children. UPK can help families access preschool opportunities while allowing children to benefit from a quality early learning experience in their own community. Families interested in UPK can apply through the Colorado UPK application process and select our Genoa-Hugo preschool program when completing their application. Our staff is happy to help families understand the enrollment process and answer questions along the way.
We are proud to have recently received a 4 out of 5 stars Quality Standards Rating, recognizing the quality of care, learning experiences, family partnerships, and professional practices within our program. We are committed to continually growing and improving so that we can provide the best possible preschool experience for every child and family we serve.
Learning Through Play
Our program places a strong emphasis on play-based learning. Each day, children have opportunities for outdoor play that encourages gross motor development, coordination, balance, strength, and healthy physical activity. Indoors, children are provided with free-play opportunities that encourage imagination, creativity, problem-solving, social skills, and cooperative play. Teachers use these moments to observe children's interests and scaffold their learning through thoughtful questions, encouragement, and support.
We also provide a nutritious snack each day to help support children's growing bodies and keep them energized and ready to learn.
